Where is the best place to buy composite decking in Perth?
A supplier who carries more than one brand, will tell you which one suits your deck, and puts the joists, clips and fascia on the same order as the boards. Integrity Building Materials supplies NewTechWood, Millboard and WoodEvo composite decking across Perth, delivered to site, supply only. Send the area and the board and it comes back as one price.
What are the downsides of composite decking?
Three honest ones. Composite boards expand and contract with heat, so the joist centres, end gaps and clip system in the installation guide are not optional. Dark colours run hot in full sun, so pick a lighter tone for a north-facing alfresco. And the bushfire rating is per product, not per brand: WoodEvo and NewTechWood both state BAL29 for decking, but NewTechWood's cladding carries no BAL rating, so ask for the report before anything goes on a rated lot.
Does composite decking get hot in a Perth summer?
Every deck surface does, and darker boards more than lighter ones. WoodEvo's HOME range uses NatureCool technology on its lighter colours, which the manufacturer says keeps the surface 10 to 20 degrees cooler than standard boards. On any brand, a lighter tone and some shade over the afternoon side of the deck make the difference between bare feet and thongs.
Is composite decking slippery, and can it go around a pool?
It depends on the board. WoodEvo HOME publishes an R11 slip rating to AS 4586:2013 and the ADVANCED range R13. Millboard's Lasta-Grip collection is built for wet, high-traffic areas and its Enhanced Grain is sold for poolside use. NewTechWood's Marina range is designed for waterfront and salt-air exposure. Tell us it is a pool deck and we spec the board and the edge detail to suit.
Are composite decking boards fire resistant or BAL rated?
Only where the manufacturer has tested them. WoodEvo decking carries a BAL29 rating and NewTechWood states BAL 29 for its decking in bushfire-prone areas. Millboard is wood-free but you should ask for its fire data for the application. On a bushfire-prone lot, tell us the BAL level and we price a board that has the report to match.
What joist spacing does composite decking need?
Closer than timber. WoodEvo HOME boards are rated for 450mm residential centres, and NewTechWood's Soho profile is specified at a 450mm span. Every brand publishes its own centres for residential and commercial loads, and for boards laid on the diagonal, so the frame is set out to the board you have chosen, not the other way round. Send us the board and we supply the joists to suit.
Can I lay composite decking over concrete or pavers?
Yes, on a subframe. Composite boards are never laid flat on a slab. They go on joists, composite or aluminium bearers, or adjustable pedestals that give the boards the ventilation and the drainage the manufacturer requires. Millboard sells its own DuoSpan and Plas-Pro subframe systems. Tell us what the deck sits on and the frame goes on the order with the boards.
How long does composite decking last?
The manufacturers back it with the warranty. NewTechWood carries a 25-year limited residential warranty and a 10-year commercial one. WoodEvo HOME is 25 years residential and the ADVANCED PVC range 30 years. A capped or mineral board that is laid to the guide, on the right centres, with the right gaps, is a deck you stop thinking about.
How much does composite decking cost in Perth?
It comes down to the brand, the board width and profile, the frame it sits on, how many cut-ends and steps there are, and the size of the deck. We do not publish a per-board or per-metre rate, because a deck price that leaves out the joists and clips is not a deck price. Send the area and the board and you get one number for the lot.
Do you install decking, or can I lay it myself?
Supply only. We price and deliver the boards and everything under them. Builders and carpenters lay most of it. Self-builders order the same boards and get the same installation guide, and if you would rather not lay it yourself, we link you in with install teams we work with.
